Greenville Highland Games, Greenville, SC

2007  A hot late spring day greeted us on the campus of Furman University, Greenville, SC site of the Greater Greenville Scottish Games and Highland Festival. This was the second year of the games and the first year for our tent at these games. We had a very busy and productive day.

Festivities started with a parade through downtown Greenville on Friday evening. There were 80 positions filled with participants including: SC Lt. Governor, Greenville mayor, senators and representatives. Pipe bands, clans, local business sponsors, school bands and observers were plentiful. Crowds were from 3 to 6 rows deep down Main Street. It was really an impressive turnout and a true touch of Americana. A "Must Attend" games if you're in the area.

Organizers were so busy planning this event to perfection, they did not consider the Armstrong reputation. We marched just behind the cattle (Chic-Fil-A) and adjacent to horse drawn carriages with lovely southern belles on board. Sooo tempting!!!  But we were on our good behavior.

Organizers recently reported: Paid attendance approaching 20.000; 22 Pipe Bands; 58 Clan Tents (about 45 different clans-editor); over 5,000 attended the Cailidh; and 4 Clan Chiefs from Scotland attended.
