North Alabama Scottish Games

The North Alabama Scottish Games and Festival was suspended due to a reorganization of the officers within the sponsoring society. It is hoped by all that the games will be restart soon..

The 2004 North Alabama Scottish Games and Festival was held on June 18 to 20 at Dublin Park, Madison (Huntsville), Alabama. ARMSTRONG was the honored clan. ACS President Beverly Meyers and her husband Terry drove down from the Cincinnati, Ohio area to attend and open the games. Armstrong turnout was large. Over forty people signed the guest book. Activity at the clan tent was brisk with a lot of interest expressed about general things Scottish. The beautiful setting, cool temperatures and mild breezes made the day very enjoyable.

Clan Genealogist, and local resident, Bill Kilbourne was present to field all questions related to one's ancestry and general clan information. Vice President Bill, another local resident, executed a stealth operation which resulted in Bill Kilbourne receiving a special award plaque as part of the opening ceremonies. Bill's plaque was to honor his 25 years of service as Armstrong Clan genealogist. To say the least, he was very surprised and pleased with our recognition of his efforts.

We were also honored to have Past Presidents Bob and Milton, along with their wives Anne and Faye, attend the games after traveling from the Knoxville, TN area.

Several other Armstrongs traveled long distances to attend these special games. Folks came from Tennessee, Ohio, Illinois. Indiana, Virginia, Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.

As a special Fathers Day treat, Vice President Bill's son, John, daughter in law, Jennifer, and first grandchild, Hannah,  flew in from Philadelphia, PA to attend the games and share in this special Fathers Day.

After a great breakfast, prepared by Bill and Beverly Kilbourne, President Beverly, husband Terry, VP Bill and wife Janet represented the ACS at  the Kirkin' of the Tartans at an antebellum First Presbyterian Church in Huntsville on Sunday morning. If you have never attended this "Blessing of the Tartans" and the families they represent, you have missed a very special and moving service.
