President's Page 28 April, 2008 Charles Town, WV
Hello fellow Society members. I hope 2007 has been a
wonderful and memorable year and that 2008 will bring even more
wonders and memories. It
‘s an honor and privilege to ascend to the Presidency of our
Society. The Armstrong
Clan Society has now celebrated 25 years of serving its members
worldwide and we are looking forward to the next 25!
I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself and our new
Vice-president. I, Joseph
Wiggington live in Charles Town, WV and am married to Tanya. I have a 22 year old son
Michael, and a 16 year old daughter Caitlin. Here in the Washington, DC area
I can be found hosting the Clan Tent as well as traveling to some
other areas. It’s my
hope that over the next two years I can visit some Festivals outside
of my usual stops. If anyone would like to contact me my address (both physical
and email) will be on each issue of The Armstrong Chronicles. In addition to my work with
the Armstrong Clan Society I’m active in the St. Andrew’s Society
of Mid-Maryland, Inc. where I currently serve as Co-Chair of the
Frederick Celtic Festival.
The new Vice-president is Larry Armstrong of Lakeview, OH.
Larry has been a Director and his wife Carol is currently our
Secretary. Larry is going
to take the lead on organizing materials for those who convene clan
tents to help ensure everyone has the necessary materials to hand out,
and just as important, make sure that everyone has the tools they need
to provide feedback to Peter Armstrong for his job with membership.
This year we have three significant Flowers in the Forest to
remember at Kirkin’s and Festivals, Past President Charles
Armstrong, Clan Genealogist Bill Kilbourne, and most recently, the
past Secretary of the Armstrong Clan Trust in Scotland, Olive
Richelieu-Blackburn. Though
I never had the privilege of knowing Charles, I did get to know Bill
over these past few years. He
was indeed a character and will be missed at the games.
As a reminder, the 2008 AGM will be in Ligonier, PA the first
weekend in September with additional information to be found in the Chronicles. Speaking of the Chronicles, there is some unfinished business we need to attend. After many years of holding
about every office in the Society, Milton has retired from editor of
the Chronicles leaving an
opportunity for someone else to step up and assume the position. If anyone would like to make a major contribution here is a
great chance. For now the
Chronicles will be put out
by the officers of the Society. Anyone
with materials to contribute can send them directly to me at Joewigg@aol.com. This introductory letter would not be complete without giving thanks to my predecessor Bill Armstrong. Bill provided great leadership both in his energy steering our Society and his time traveling great distances to be with Armstrong Tents at many Festivals throughout the year. And special thanks must go out to his wife Janet who was always there with him. Together they make a great team!
So, with optimism and a happy heart it is with pleasure
that I begin where Bill left off.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any ideas you may
have to improve our Society, and if there is any way I or another
officer of the Society can help please just let us know. Cheers, Joe Wiggington Return to the ACS homepage Rev 28 Apr 2008 |
