September 2006

This year the Games were moved to Fort Ward Park (a Civil War Fort being re-constructed) and pushed back till September in an effort to escape the July heat.  Not only did we not have any heat or humidity, we had lots of Scottish sunshine come down on us in the afternoon.  The park setting allowed the clans to set up in a treed area and the Armstrong Tent was next to the Elliott Clan.  The games were reduced from two days to one but had a strong showing none the less.  Several Armstrongs stopped by including two young brothers Jordan and Shane.  Their father Terrence (also shown) is a descendant through the Cherokee nation from North Carolina. These lads were quite excited to learn about the history of their name and immediately had their parents buy some tartan and Clan crests.  I think we will be seeing more of these lads in the future!  All in all, despite the weather, it was a good day for everyone. - Cheers - Joe Wiggington
