July 24, 2005 Paris, France: Lance Armstrong wins an unprecedented seventh Tour de France in a row.  An achievement that will very likely remain unequaled for a very long time. Before beginning "The Tour", Lance announced his retirement from professional bicycle racing to spend more time with his children. See below for more of Lance's cancer survival story.

Cancer Survivor

Lance Armstrong

 Remains Unvanquished

In July 2004 Lance Armstrong achieved a record breaking sixth consecutive victory in the Tour de France. Never before, in it's 91 race history, has anyone won six Tours and consecutively at that!!! The grueling touring bicycle race is performed in stages over  22 days covering over 2,250 miles (3,600 km) of French countryside.

Lance began his victory streak in 1999 barely one year after returning to professional bike racing after a near fatal bout with cancer. Lance prefers to emphasize his cancer survival over his biking accomplishments.

Lance's testicular cancer had spread to his lungs and brain when initially diagnosed. He was given a very low (about 2%) survival chance. After several surgeries and aggressive medical treatments, the cancer was in remission. Lance then began grueling training for the second love of his life, after his family, bicycle racing.

Lance spent several years of his young life in foster homes before living with his Armstrong "parents". He felt so strongly for this family that he changed his name to match his parents after his adoption.

The complete Lance Armstrong story can be found in his book which covers his early years and his fight with cancer.

Lance is a perfect role model for the Armstrong Clan motto, I Remain Unvanquished - Semper Invictus
